Revelation - The Last Book

Welcome
to the city of brotherly love! We are looked at the 6th church of Revelation:
Philadelphia. The city was founded by Attalus II who was the ruler of the city
of Pergamum between 159 -138 BC. We are told that Attalus cared so much for his
brother Eumenes that he was known as Philadelphos, which literally means “One
who loves his brother.” And so he named the city Philadelphia! That will have
an important significance on understanding this letter.  

Onward
to Sardis! This church seemed to
have everything going for them that included a really interesting history that
involved the famous Greek storyteller, Aesop. They were also considered to be a
church that was alive and vibrant. They had a great reputation! But... Jesus
calls them dead! It’s not a problem of indifference, they really think they are
alive, the problem is presumption. The fact that they believe they are alive
when they are truly dead is a serious lack of understanding of their position,
and so you’ve got to ask, where is the Holy Spirit amongst them?
